Permanent establishment of the e8 in Montréal

The e8 is an international non-profit organization comprising nine leading electricity companies from the G8 countries. It was founded in 1992 to promote sustainable energy development. The secretariat general of the e8 has been headquartered in Montréal ever since. Following the recent incorporation of the e8 in Canada, its board of directors has decided to keep its head office in Montréal.

“There are several reasons we chose Montréal: very competitive operating costs; access to a highly qualified bilingual, if not trilingual, labour force; proximity to our main partners, notably the United Nations; and the expanding networking possibilities with other international organizations and companies working in sustainable development. Also playing a role in our decision, of course, were easy commuting, cultural diversity and the commitment of Montréal International to nurture the network ideal among the cluster of high-calibre international organizations established in Montréal, as well as the general enthusiasm of the population for sustainable development. All of these factors combine to create a stimulating work environment that promotes the growth of organizations like ours,” explains e8 executive director Johane Meagher.
