College education

College-level teaching establishments are the core of innovation in Montréal. These institutions train more than 55,000 technicians annually in technology fields ranging from aeronautics, healthcare, biology and agri-food, physical, administration, etc. This ensures a pool of qualified workers with strategic importance for companies in Montréal. Moreover, in order to meet their technology needs, companies can directly benefit from the expertise of the college centres for the transfer of technology (CCTT) affiliated to colleges in Greater Montréal.

In the Montréal region, college, pre-university and technical level education is available at 15 public colleges, 31 private teaching institutions and four government schools. Companies can count on a pool of more than 120,000 college students. Several institutions in Greater Montréal prepare candidates for the International Baccalaureate (IB) exams, whose value and prestige is recognized by most major universities around the world.

In order to strengthen ties between colleges and companies, several CEGEP-associated CCTTs are established in the Greater Montréal region. These technological research centres provide applied research services, technical assistance, intelligence, and the dissemination of information and training adapted to the companies’ needs. The fields of expertise that exist in the metropolitan area include chemical processes, optics-photonics, water technologies, packaging and agri-food engineering technologies, graphic communications, logistics, aerospace and fashion.
