In 2006, nearly 15,000 foreign university students from more than 150 countries, including 5,000 at the graduate and post-graduate levels, attended various higher education institutions in Greater Montréal. Furthermore, nearly 3,700 foreign students earned a university degree. The numbers speak for themselves: they are proof of the excellent reputation that Montréal higher educational institutions enjoy around the world. Moreover, tuition fees are among the lowest in all of North America plays a significant role in attracting foreign students to the region.
Thanks to an agreement between Québec and around 50 countries and national agencies, some students may be exempt from the additional tuition fees normally applyied to foreign students.
The Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) provides foreign students with various tools to help them better prepare for and complete their studies.
