Greater Montréal has been riding a tidal wave of optimism this fall as the global spotlight turned on the city. Once again this year, Montréal was ranked one of the top student cities in North America, second only to Boston. It was also the only Canadian city to make the top 20 list of the world’s best cities where to open a subsidiary, placing 15th. And, once more, Greater Montréal ranked first in North America for its 2014/15 foreign investment attraction strategy. It goes without saying that Montréal International (MI) was the driving force behind the strategy and we’re extremely proud of that!
This fall our team was actively involved internationally and locally, with Montréal’s business community, to help Greater Montréal reach its full potential. Here’s a quick overview of our fall projects:
- On October 22, we submitted our recommendations to the Québec Taxation Review Committee
- We contributed two projects to the I see mtl initiative: the Greater Montréal Ambassadors Network and a commitment to increase the proportion of university graduates in the region
- From October 26 to 31, we played an active role in Québec Premier Philippe Couillard’s trade mission to China
- On November 27 our International Organizations Division held its annual reception for international organizations, where more than 100 attendees celebrated Greater Montréal’s growing international reach
Results that speak for themselves
We’ve also publicly announced a number of investment projects in the region, including the opening of Gorilla Group’s and Cloudcade’s Montréal offices, Intel’s acquisition of PasswordBox, ConcoursMania’s plans to expand its North American operations from Montréal, and Atomic Fiction’s and Berger-Levrault’s decision to locate to Greater Montréal. With so many achievements behind us, we’re really looking forward to releasing our 2014 annual results and would like to take this opportunity to thank Normand Legault, the outgoing Chairman of the Board of Directors of MI, for all the wonderful work he’s done over the past three years.
Now, we’re definitely ending the year on a strong note with the appointment of L. Jacques Ménard, a true ambassador of the Montréal community, as Chairman of the Board of Directors of MI. And the outlook for 2015 is just as exciting, with plenty of new projects to attract foreign investment and international organizations, organize talent recruiting missions and publish studies and reports on the city.
Until then, Happy Holidays from the entire MI team!
