Creativity thrives everywhere in Greater Montréal

A city bursting with creative energy

Creativity thrives everywhere in Greater Montréal. You feel it in the energy of the countless cafés and restaurants. It is present in the inspiration that gives rise to innovative start-ups, it flourishes in the beautiful parks and public spaces and is expressed via world class arts and culture institutions. And the world has taken notice.

Montréal was named UNESCO City of Design in 2006, made The New York Times list of the world’s top 10 hip cities, and is rated as North America’s number one host city for international association events.

A couple of aces up its sleeve

Montréal’s creative potential lies in the people who make up its rich multicultural fabric. Greater Montréal is home to two million workers, 50% of whom are bilingual and a fifth trilingual. In all, more than 100 languages are spoken in Montréal, a place where diversity can truly be said to inspire creativity.

But it’s not just creative genius that makes Montréal such an attractive business prospect. The city also has a highly skilled workforce. With its 11 universities, including McGill University and the Université de Montréal, Greater Montréal is Canada’s hub for higher education, producing 40,000 new graduates each year. That makes for a vast talent pool and one of the most pro-active, competent and flexible labour markets in North America.

Greater Montréal’s strength also lies in its diversified economy. Its up-to-the-minute high-tech and creative industries now account for 7.3% of all jobs in the region. That’s more than 93,000 workers in the information technology and communications industry alone. With so much talent in the area, it’s no wonder that many Montréal start-ups including Busbud, Frank & Oak, Beyond the Rack, Transit App,, Breather, and Provender are working side by side with industry titans such as Ubisoft, CGI, Framestore, Moment Factory and Cirque du Soleil.

Think Montréal, and you think joie de vivre, a lively arts scene and an outstanding quality of life. But what really makes this city so special is its ability to keep reinventing itself—people and business community alike.
