In comparison to other European and American cities, the cost of living in Montréal is not high at all. The cost of living study conducted in 2003 by Union Bank of Switzerland ranks Montréal as costing less than Helsinki, Geneva, Vienna, London, Paris, Milan, Zurich, Barcelona and Madrid: amongst these cities, it is in Montréal that the shopping cart of goods and services including rent is the least costly.
