2012 was a banner year for job creation in Greater Montréal. Over the past 12 months, the Québec metropolis added 127,800 jobs and posted the highest job growth rate among major Canadian cities at 6.7%.
Greater Montréal was behind 93% of all new jobs created in Québec, fully assuming its role as the driver of the province’s economy. What’s more, the Montréal region was responsible for creating more than 40% of all new jobs in Canada.
At the same time, Québec’s 3.5% job growth rate was the second-highest among the provinces, just a hair behind Newfoundland’s 3.7%. Better still, in terms of full-time employment numbers only, Québec turned in an even stronger performance and ranked first in Canada with a 3.9% growth rate in 2012.
