Montréal and Phinergy to establish a partnership to test aluminum-air technology for electric vehicles and stationary uses

TEL AVIV, Israel, Nov. 13, 2016 – As part of an economic mission to Israel and the West Bank, from November 13 to 18, the Mayor of Montréal, Denis Coderre, invited the leaders of Phinergy, an Israeli company that is a leader in the development of ultra-high energy density systems based on aluminum-air energy, to test its latest technologies in Montréal.

Phinergy will have the opportunity to be among the first companies to experiment the future test corridor for electric vehicles, to be developed as part of Montréal’s Transportation Electrification Strategy 2016-2020. This corridor, to be set up by the Montréal Institute on electrification and intelligent transportation, will serve as a commercial showcase and offer manufacturers favourable conditions to test their new technologies in real-life conditions.

“My role is to position Montréal as a leader in the field of electrification by creating a world-class facility to develop and experiment new electric and intelligent transportation and stationary uses. We must promote this environment, which is favourable to innovation and renewable and sustainable energies, to encourage foreign companies to invest in and develop their leading-edge technologies in the Montréal area,” said Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre.

“Following the successful introduction of Phinergy’s aluminum-air battery technology in Montréal at the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve in 2014, Phinergy is pleased to come and experiment this technology in the city’s future test corridor. This will enable us to demonstrate our system’s performance in an urban setting and cold environment,” said Aviv Tzidon, CEO of Phinergy.

The aluminum-air technology, developed by Phinergy, increases autonomy, allows charging in minutes and produces heat to preserve electric autonomy in cold weather. The technology uses aluminum as an energy source. Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth. Because of its hydroelectric resources, Québec is one of the largest producers of aluminum in the world.
