Geographic Location

At approximately one hour’s flying time from the major economic centres of New York, Boston and Toronto, and less than one hour’s drive from the U.S. border, Montréal holds a strategic position in North America. Washed by the St. Lawrence River and located 1,600 kilometres (1,000 miles) inland from the Atlantic Ocean, Québec’s economic hub is located at the junction of latitude 45° north and longitude 73° west, i.e. on the same horizontal axis as Bordeaux, France and the same vertical axis as New York.

The Greater Montréal territory comprises 82 municipalities and covers a surface area of over 4,000 km2 (1,544 sq. mi.).
