Thanks to their innovation and creativity, Montréal has emerged as a hot spot in several leading technology sectors including life sciences, aerospace and information and communications technology (ICT).

Montréal boasts 11 institutions of higher learning, including four major universities. Two are French-language, and two are English-language institutions:
- Université de Montréal (UdeM)
- Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)
- McGill University
- Concordia University
Altogether, nearly 170,000 students are enrolled in Montréal universities, representing the greatest concentration of university students in North America on a per capita basis. International organizations thus benefit not only from a large skilled workforce, but also from a strong development pool.
