From Mirabel, Airbus manages the entire A220 programme, from engineering and production to final assembly and global customer support. The Québec site stands out as Airbus’ only location outside Europe offering end-to-end aircraft programme capabilities.

With more than 4,600 employees in Québec, Greater Montréal has become a strategic hub for Airbus, bringing together industrial expertise, technological innovation and world-class know-how.

At the heart of the A220 programme

The A220 continues to show strong commercial performance, with over 500 aircraft delivered to 25 airlines, including Air Canada, Air France, Delta and JetBlue. Supported by a solid order backlog, the programme is now ramping-up its production, notably with the purchase of 150 aircraft by Malaysia-based carrier AirAsia.

Since entering service in 2016, the A220 has accumulated more than 3 million flight hours, serving over 1,800 routes and 480 destinations worldwide. Designed to meet the evolving needs of airlines, it has established itself as a benchmark in the next generation of single-aisle aircraft.

Airbus Canada’s presence in Greater Montréal generates lasting and far-reaching benefits:

  • Represents 60% of Québec’s aerospace exports while integrating a broad network of local suppliers into its operations
  • Develops a highly skilled workforce and supports applied research through close collaboration with leading institutions such as McGill University, Polytechnique Montréal, ÉTS and the École des métiers de l’aérospatiale
  • Advances the decarbonization of air transportation, including the integration of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF)

“The economic impact of the A220 programme extends far beyond our company. It benefits a vast ecosystem across Québec and Canada, supporting tens of thousands of jobs, generating significant opportunities for local suppliers, and driving exports that showcase our expertise on the global stage.”
