Why invest in quantum technologies in Montréal?

Investing in Montréal means gaining access to a critical mass of talent, infrastructure and public investment designed to turn quantum breakthroughs into business opportunities.

  • A strong community connecting academia, startups and support organizations
  • Leading research centres including Mila, the Tensor Institute, the Institut quantique and C2MI
  • Internationally recognized experts such as Gilles Brassard, Claude Crépeau, Nicolas Godbout, Soumaya Cherkaoui and Roberto Morandotti
  • A sector supported by significant public investments, notably through Canada’s National Quantum Strategy
  • A major innovation hub offering a wide range of incentives to support research and investment

Gilles Brassard: Pioneer of quantum cryptography

Gilles Brassard is a pioneer of quantum cryptography. Admitted to Université de Montréal’s computer science program at age 13, he co-developed, alongside Charles H. Bennett, the BB84 protocol, a breakthrough enabling secure communications based on the laws of physics.

In 2026, he was awarded the A.M. Turing Award, the highest distinction in computer science.
