The city’s tolerance to immigration, openness to diversity, wide range of festivals, affordable housing, and thriving startup ecosystem are some of the factors that propelled it to the No. 2 spot in the world ranking.

Nestpick’s 2018 study ranks 110 cities around the world.

To compile the ranking, Nestpick looked at 17 criteria in the following four categories:

  • Business Ecosystem (25%, 3 criteria): job opportunities for young people, the city’s startup scene, and tourist attractions.
  • The Essentials (30%, 7 criteria): access to housing, transportation, health care, food, universities, contraception, and the Internet.
  • Openness (25%, 4 criteria): gender equality, tolerance to immigration, openness to LGBT rights, and degree of personal freedoms.
  • Recreation (20%, 3 criteria): nightlife, cost of beer, and number of festivals.
