Mistral AI selects Montréal for its Canadian hub
It’s official: Mistral AI will be opening an office in Montréal, marking its first establishment in Canada. The French leader in artificial intelligence made the announcement during an event bringing together stakeholders from Montréal’s business and political communities.
In an interview with La Presse, Audrey Herblin-Stoop, Senior Vice-President, Global Affairs, said this expansion seeks to accelerate the company’s growth in Canada, tap into the local qualified talent pool and develop key partnerships with organisations, including Mila.
A global leader in artificial intelligence, Mistral AI stands out for its open-source solutions, designed to meet the needs of large enterprises and public organisations. The company’s approach is centred on technological sovereignty, tailored to organisations handling sensitive data.
Mistral AI has also entered into a collaboration agreement with the Government of Québec. According to the official release (French), the agreement aims to “inform the government’s strategic thinking on digital sovereignty, technological autonomy and the responsible integration of artificial intelligence within the public administration.”
Founded in Paris in 2023, Mistral AI has offices in the United Kingdom and the United States. The company’s mission is to democratize access to artificial intelligence by developing generative AI solutions that are high-performing, customizable and secure, capable of meeting the needs of both private enterprises and public organizations.
