March 14, 2024

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: 532540, NSE: TCS) has made a strategic leap to bolster its Artificial Intelligence (AI) offerings in Canada with the inauguration of a state-of-the-art IT delivery centre in Montréal, the country’s AI epicentre. The new facility represents TCS’ commitment to advancing its leadership in the AI domain and empowering clients in the region with cutting-edge technology solutions.

Situated in Square Phillips, downtown Montréal, this centre will serve as a hub for delivering a diverse range of technology solutions, including AI, machine learning, cloud computing, and advanced analytics to drive digital transformation for TCS’ customers in Canada. The centre will also contribute to employment opportunities in the region with the addition of 500 employees over the next three years. This will be in addition to the 500 employees hired from 2021. The Montréal facility represents a significant regional investment accelerating TCS’ commitment to shaping the future of AI-enabled transformations for its Canadian clients.

Leveraging its global innovation hubs and delivery centres, TCS aims to create one of the world’s largest AI-ready workforces. In the evolving technological landscape, TCS has made substantial investments to upskill and empower its workforce with next-gen competencies. Over the past year, TCS has successfully trained over 200,000 TCS employees in foundational competencies of generative AI (GenAI).

Valérie Plante, Mayor of Montréal, said, “I am thrilled to see TCS expand its presence in Montréal, confirming the vitality and dynamism of our city. TCS’ expansion is another strategic step in strengthening the city as a technology destination. Montréal is an undisputedly attractive destination for investors and business, but also for their talents, thanks to our world-class quality of life, services, and opportunities.”

TCS is among the five largest IT services providers in Canada and has been operating in the country for over 30 years. Employing over 9,000 employees in Canada, it currently serves more than 100 enterprises from coast to coast, with additional offices in Toronto, Calgary, Regina, and Vancouver.

Soumen Roy, Country Head, TCS Canada, said, “As an AI epicentre, Montréal is where we need to be. Our clients have experienced tremendous growth in their businesses, and TCS is pleased to help them harness new technologies to power their innovations and drive their digital transformation journeys. Montréal’s high concentration of outstanding tech talent contributed to our decision to expand here, and we are very committed to recruiting and developing the best local talent in the area.”

TCS has also launched a tech challenge for post-secondary school students in Québec, in collaboration with Bombardier and TECHNATION Canada. Targeting university and college students, the competition will run from September to December 2024, focusing on students devising tech solutions for an aviation problem statement.

Professor Laurette Dubé, Chair and Scientific Director, MCCHE, McGill University, said, “Solutions at scale to modern societal challenges is complex. Information, AI and other digital technologies are key. TCS will bring an unprecedented level of innovation and expertise to our local ecosystem; McGill and TCS have a longstanding partnership that we look forward to further deepening on projects within Québec.”
