Brazilian leader Gazeus Games chooses Montréal for its first studio abroad

November 18, 2019

Gazeus Games, Brazil’s largest casual and social games developer, announces the launch of its new studio in Montréal. It is the first operation abroad for the tech company also known as the third biggest games studio in Brazil. Gazeus Games has set its sights on Montréal as Canada’s premier video game production center and 5th hub in the world.

“We’re thrilled to write this new and exciting chapter for Gazeus in one of the world’s leading video game development hubs,” mentioned Dario Kadhi Souza, CEO and Founder of Gazeus Games. “We want our games to be ranked among the world’s top 100 in the next few years. It will only be possible by engaging with the best talent and partners in the market. Montréal was the best fit as we looked at expanding our horizons for numerous reasons, including its diversity, creativity and exceptional quality of life.”

Founded in 2006, Gazeus Games launched its activities by developing web-based games. In 2012, the studio focused on its free mobile game offering, which now includes more than 50 titles. Gazeus Games develops some of the most popular casual and social games online and on mobile, including Mahjong, Canasta, Solitaire and Dominoes.

Montréal will be the home base for the launch of its new flagship social game titled Yatzy Party. To meet an increasing demand for mobile games and to address the challenge of monetizing them, Gazeus Games decided to establish operations in Montréal due to the presence of a highly specialized workforce skilled among other aspects at developing in-app experiences.

With a 100-people strong team and boasting a year-over-year growth of 25%, Gazeus Games has already started building the Montréal team, which is projected to grow to 30 employees within the next two years. It is also investing in more sophisticated games, with its first incursion in the Player vs. Player (PVP) segment under the title Let’s Zeppelin.

“It’s exciting to welcome an international player and market leader like Gazeus Games, and support them in their ambition. It is a concrete result of Montréal International’s strategy to increase the number of markets in which we are active,” highlighted Stéphane Paquet, Vice-President, Foreign Investments and International Organisations at Montréal International, Greater Montréal’s economic promotion agency. “Since 2015, Québec’s video game industry has experienced impressive growth with the number of companies increasing by 42%. This success is due in great part to Montréal’s dynamic ecosystem, which offers a competitive advantage that is unmatched in any other market.”
