Canada: Best G7 destination for expats in 2019

The new edition of the Expat Insider study, one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive surveys on life abroad, has a ranking list of the best and worst destinations in the world for expats in 2019.

Canada ranked No. 1 among G7 countries:

  1. Canada
  2. Germany
  3. Japan
  4. France
  5. United States
  6. United Kingdom
  7. Italy

In order to tally these results, five major factors were surveyed: Quality of Life, Ease of Settling In, Personal Finance and Cost of Living, Working Abroad, and Family Life. Canada particularly set itself apart in three of these five criteria:


Best Family Life

Canada ranks No. 1 among G7 countries by achieving high scores in the six sub-factors: Availability of Childcare and Education, Costs of Childcare and Education, Quality of Education, and Family Well-Being.

Best Ease of Settling In  

Canada gets the highest marks among G7 nations due to the following factors: Feeling at Home, Friendliness, Finding Friends, and Language.

Second-Best Quality of Life  

Canada is right behind Japan but still manages to get high marks in this category. Factors such as Leisure Options, Personal Happiness, Travel and Transportation, Health and Well-Being, Safety and Security, and Digital Life were evaluated.


Methodology

In its sixth year, Expat Insider evaluated 64 destinations in a survey conducted in March 2019. Over 20,000 expats representing 182 nationalities and scattered across 187 countries or territories were surveyed. The participants rated up to 48 factors on various aspects of their life abroad that had been grouped into five main categories.
