Cohere opens new office in Montréal

Welcome to Montréal, Cohere

July 3, 2025

Dubbed as Canada’s most prominent AI company, Cohere is opening a 20-person office at Mila, the Québec AI Institute, to tap into the local expertise and talent pool. The new office will strengthen Cohere’s capabilities in developing large language models (LLMs) and other artificial intelligence tools tailored to the needs of Canadian businesses and the public sector, with a focus on security and privacy matters.

“I am incredibly proud to expand Cohere’s presence in Canada with the opening of our Montréal office,” said Cohere CEO and Co-founder Aidan Gomez. “Canada has been at the center of AI breakthroughs over the past decades, with Montréal’s research leadership playing a pivotal role. This represents an excellent opportunity for Cohere to grow our Canadian talent base and strengthen our relationships with the Montréal, Québec, and Canadian governments, and businesses throughout the region.”

“Montréal’s artificial intelligence ecosystem welcomes a key global player. When a company like Cohere chooses our city, it means that our local talent and expertise will play an important role when it comes to AI’s next developments. Along with Mila and other local partners, we are mobilized to support the growth of this sector, a cornerstone of our economy,” said Valérie Plante, Mayor of the City of Montréal.

Founded in Toronto in 2019 by Aidan Gomez, Nick Frosst and Ivan Zhang, Cohere also has offices in New York, San Francisco and London.
